The Queen of England honored hair styling legend Vidal Sassoon by awarding him a CBE at Buckingham Palace yesterday. He looked incredibly young and cool in a slim-fitting suit and geekie black framed glasses. Vidal said, ‘It is both an honour and sense of personal satisfaction to receive this award but I also accept it on behalf of the craft of hairdressing. The UK is one of the hairdressing capitals of the world and I’m proud to be part of it.’

Naturally, the King of Hair was thrilled to meet the Queen. ‘The Queen was charming. She walked towards me with a smile and said, “You’ve been at it for a while.” I left a pause before answering, “Yes maam, 67 years in fact!” Her reply? “Good Lord!”’ Vidal has been out of the public eye lately, but this is all set to change next year. Not only is the man who invented the bob working on his memoirs, but there is also a documentary in the making.
Vidal and friends celebrated the award with a quiet lunch at the swank Il Vaporetto, in the company of close friends. “It was all very low key – although he was wearing his medal,” says one source.
Good on him! He is a hair legend
