Hair Straighteners – How To Buy (part 3)

What Size Flat Iron Should Use?

A common misconception about ceramic hair straighteners is that bigger plate size is better. While much is dependent  on temperature and heat regulation, bigger plate size does help style larger sections of hair faster. This guide is a good beginning point for choosing the right flat iron.

  • Short Straight Hair 3/4 “
  • Short Wavy Hair 3/4″
  • Medium Straight Hair 3/4 – 1 1/4″
  • Medium Wavy Hair 1″ – 1 1/2″
  • Long Straight Hair 1 1/2″ – 2″
  • Long Wavy Hair 1 3/4″ – 2 1/4″

By purchasing a hair straightener that is too big, you run the risk of burning your fingers. If you purchase a flat iron that is too small, it will take more passes to straighten your hair. And the more times you pass over your hair with a hair iron, the more mechanical and heat damage you’ll do to it. So make sure to choose one that fits your hair length and also gives you flexibility for hair cuts and growth.
