Choosing a Hair Extension Style
Hair extensions styles are varied and are often confusing someone new to extensions. To get the right hair extension at a salon or even on the internet, you need to know common hair extension textures [1]. The following list of hair extension styles will help you communicate which style you are looking for.
- Deep Wave – Characterized by tight spiral curls; not a true wave.
- European ( Euro ) – Straight hair that is finer than Asian hair, but not quite as straight. May have a very slight wave.
- Jheri Curl – Sometimes called nappy tracks. They are used to reproduce an afro style.
- Loose Deep Wave – This is a loose curl style; think loose spirals that are larger.
- Remy ( Remi ) – This refers to the way the hair is collected. The hair is tied off close to the scalp, tied off, and then cut. It is the processed as bulk, pre-tipped strands, weft, or as a wig.
- Silky – Usually pin straight and shiney; much like Asian or Pacific Islander
- Virgin – This hair is Remy hair that has not been colored or treated in any way.
- Wavy – This is usually marketed as Indian Wave or Spanish Wave; luxurious soft curls that retain their wave when washed.
- Yaki – This hair has texture to match afro-american hair; usually sold straight.
